Cloud Crash
HeHe, Science + Industry Museum
Manchester, 2016-2017
Arciform was commissioned by the Science + Industry Museum in Manchester to work with artists HeHe to help design, prototype, and install three newly commissioned artworks: Airbag, Burn Out, and Diamonds In The Sky, for the exhibition 'Cloud Crash'.
With environmental concerns a common theme in HeHe's practice the "smoke" for two of the works was created using ultrasonic humidifiers that created water vapour mist and so avoided the use of any harmful chemicals.
The car for 'Airbag' was purchased from an auction site in the crashed condition and it was sent to be recycled at the end of the project. We modified the car electrics so that the headlights stayed on all day and with the hazard lights flashing, and installed the work outdoors to look like it had crashed into a pillar.
The artwork 'Burn Out', a scale model of Tate Modern, was designed and fabricated in-house at our Liverpool workshop and also fully tested in its greenhouse enclosure before being installed outdoors at the Science + Industry Museum.
For the work 'Diamonds in the Sky', we built a projection space and installed the AV for the video piece on a balcony in the Air and Space Hall.
